Police, sheriff chosen to get DOJ grant
The Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office and the Shawnee Police Department have received another Edward Byrne Memorial grant announcement. This is a grant through the U.S. Department of Justice.  Both entities must apply for the grant together, with one taking the lead as the administrator of the grant. The announcement is for $25,918.  In the past two years, both organizations have collaborated with two prior similar grants. The first one was for $22,583 that went to tasers and overtime. The second Byrne’s grant was just submitted a month ago for $143,736 for items involving technology. The Shawnee Police Department was the administering agency with those grants, but word has not be received yet on the second grant as to its approval.   Anyone that may have any suggestions or comments are encouraged to do so by calling either Chris Thomas at 878-1638 with the Shawnee Police Department or Deputy Chad Pope with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office at 273-1727
